Why is my iPod touch constantly freezing?

I got my 8gb iPod touch yesterday, and it was working fine. Today I updated the software on it to the newest one and it is constantly freezing. Also, the internet will work for about two minutes and then stop. When I open youtube, that will freeze as well. I'm also having that problem with some apps not working that seems to be circulating the discussion board. I've already restored my iPod this morning when iTunes did not recognize it. Is there a simple way to fix all of this or do I need to send it back?

Same with mine. Well in essence. I bought one each for me and the girlfriend on the 30th dec 2009.
Well it was after the update on the 6th jan 2010 that it started crashing / refusing to wake up at all. I was using the sleep button to make it sleep so it would save power. Well yesterday while at work I hadn't used the button at all, then this morning it woke up fine. Just after however leaving it on my desk (nothing remotely magnetic nearby) it decided it didn't want to wake up at all.

I have just this evening (approx 1 hour ago from time of this post) done a complete restore of the firmware and apps, music, photos etc. I will have to see if that works.

Thing is this, the same model ipod touch I bought for my girlfriend and I hasn't had any trouble at all since it was bought. Could it be that mine is defective?

I would prefer not having to take it back to the shop if possible because they are not exactly the most competent people there... (media markt austria, there is no official apple shop or bar afaik).

Ipod bought:
Ipod touch 8gb. 2 generation, with firmware 3.1.1 installed (worked fine with this) then updated with 3.1.2 when prompted on the 6th jan.

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give us.

Well.
I have done further tests and now it seems that it is completely random when it decides to switch off or just simply not respond anymore. I happens that I have to do a hard reset everytime I want to use it and the battery jumps from full to 20% or so.
What the **** is going on, I have done hard resets, restores (twice now) and still nothing helps.

I would appreciate someone looking into this.

I am now on my third ipod touch 8g 2G - the other two were replaced under warranty when I showed the guys at the genius bar how my ipod would randomly freeze when connected to wifi - they could not solve the problem and just gave me an exchange machine! I use mobileme and exchange on the touch so although I don't use "push data" the wifi bit is clearly using a fair bit of memory. Sometimes the touch would freeze even when syncing with itunes.

After all this frustration I was determined to crack this problem so I tried to do everything systematically. I rebuilt my ipod library and loaded in just the music - no problems. Then I started adding just the calendars - again no problem. Mail also worked fine, too, but when I came to sync contacts the machine started freezing again.

To cut a long story short, I went through my contacts - I exported them in small groups - A-E, F-J, etc and tracked down the rogue corrupted contact (it was quite obvious which group it was in because the file size was 10 times bigger than it should have been) - removed it, and now all works sweet as a nut!

Oh, and the culprit contact was my own!
