Mac Mini died

My mac mini (bought November 2007) seems to have suddenly died, with no previous indication of any sort of failure. I can't turn it on with my power cable or with the cable I borrowed from a friend.

Any ideas? It's pretty tough for me to get to an apple store because of where I live, so anything constructive would be most appreciated.

You're looking at logicboard failure then. I'm not sure what all is in/on the mini's logicboard, but you may find some information on ifixit.com.

On the MacBooks, there is a DC-in board that controls power from the battery and/or power adapter that is being supplied to the computer. If the mini has one of these as well, this part may be what's dead on your computer.

Unfortunately, iFixit is down right now, so I can't look into this further!
I'll try to check later, but you should also take a look and see if you can find anything.

prophetsearcher,

Sadly I think you are also dealing with a dead logicboard(motherboard).

People have suggested all the things I would have suggested. These like the Macbooks are 'everything' on one board designs.

I don't think this will help, but try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve

(in your case you would be starting at step #2)

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
4. Release the power button.
5. Attach the computers power cable.
6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

The above steps came from this web page:

DO NOT try resetting the PRAM on an intel based apple (this per Apple themselves)
