hard drive icon during boot up

hard drive icon during boot up

not sure what the problem is but when i boot up my macbook pro. sometimes i get a hard drive icon and it's labeled as my main drive inside the laptop but i have to click on the button to continue booting up. any ideas what could be causing this? it happens both when my external drives are connected and not connected.. lately its been happening more often.

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Hi,

Navigate here....

Black Apple > System Preferences > System > Start up Disk.

From there you can choose which drive the computer will boot from. Select your own, internal, hard drive. Job done.

thanks that worked but only for a short time maybe two or three boot up cycles.... but now its doing it again.. its more annoying than anything else. i even clicked the little lock to prevent further changes but every time this happens i go into the settings and its unlocked.. im not sure if there is something else i can do or not..

I have a same problem too.

I formatted disk and installed a snow leopard to solve this. (from tiger)

But there is no change.

I don't know why.

Is it a hardware problem? (Hard disk or main board...?)

On the google, no clear answer about this.

Try resetting PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and reselecting your main drive as the startup drive in system preferences->startup disk.
