Stuffit Expander not properly decompressing .sit files!

Hi,

Recently, I noticed that whenever I download ".sit" files from the internet, the stuffit expander program fails to properly decompress the file. So, for instance, the folder will appear but the contents of the folder are not showing. Yet when I decompress the folder on another computer, the contents appear inside the folder.

I'm currently using Stuffit 10.0 and I've reinstalled the software 3x already but the problem still keeps occurring for ALL ".sit" files. Can anyone out there offer some suggestions?

Thanks.

BT

From the Stuffit Readme file:

An issue exists, when expanding StuffIt 5 (.sit) archives on Mac OS X 10.4, whereby the expansion process appears to result in incomplete expansion. Expanded folders are either empty, or have fewer items than expected. This issue only occurs when you have turned on the "Show Item Info" option in the Finder's "Show View Options" dialog. In reality, all the items have been expanded, they are just not being shown in the Finder. You can verify this by using the Terminal.app and looking in the "empty" folder.

This is a Tiger Finder update issue. You can easily force the Finder to update the empty folder immediately by dragging a new item into the folder.

You can also avoid this issue by turning off the Show Item Info option.

To disable the "Show Item Info" option:
* Open a new Finder window.
* Set it to "Icon" view.
* Select "Show View Options" from the Finder's "View" menu (cmd + J).
* Uncheck the "Show Item Info" checkbox.

We are currently investigating the problem.

I use the 9.0.x standard version and no problems. Apparently the update if there is one will fix this as the older versions can not decompress files made by newer versions or so I read.

I also found that by downloading the files from a different website the files might not contain the specific error that is on the original site as sometimes the file was compressed and before 100% complete and verified the company uploaded it.

If all else fails contact http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html or download the free version in the link above.
