Website problems

I hope sombody can help me with this. I installed the latest Apple updates on Thursday, include the update security, and since then I have not been able to get onto the Gap's, Banana Republic, or Old Navy websites. It works fine when I use my PC desktop, just not my ibook or Powerbook since the updated software. Any ideas? Can you make it to their sites? THANKS! It was a nice day and I just wanted to shop!

Hi there,

I had similar problems with certain web sites. I found that using the reset safari option worked for me. But remember that this will get rid of any auto fill options you have setup (like previous google searches), oh and i think the keychain loses your passwords for any websites you have a password for (like webmail).

Wow. This is really strange.

I just tried to get on to the Gap's website ( http://www.gap.com ) and I couldn't, either. It just appears to load and reload forever, without ever properly loading. The screen goes blank, I get a "loading" message, but nothing ever loads and the "loading" message keeps repeating until I force it to stop. I'm using Safari, too, and I could have sworn that I've successfully logged on to that site in the past.

I'm not sure what's up.

The same thing happens when I try to log on to:

http://www.bananarepublic.com and
http://www.oldnavy.com

They're all realted companies.

Wierd. I know that I used to be able to access these sites, and (to my knowledge) I haven't changed any settings on Safari.

Anyone experiencing these problems, and/or have any ideas as to why this happening?

I went to oldnavy.com in IE and this came up.
We're sorry, but we do not support the version of the browser you are using. Our site works best with the following browsers:
PC users
Internet Explorer 5.5 and above
Netscape 7 and above
Mozilla (including Firefox) 1.0 and above

Mac users
Netscape 7 and above
Mozilla (including Firefox) 1.0 and above

I went back to it on Netscape, and it seemed to work fine.

bw, you're right.

I just downloaded, installed and tried Firefox for the first time. It worked on Gap.com like a charm. Interestingly, when I clicked on Gap.com's "web browser" help section, it doesn't mention Firefox at all. It states the following:
Gap Online is best viewed with AOL version 5.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator version 4.7 or higher, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher. You can upgrade your browser at AOL, at Netscape, or at Microsoft for free.

By the way, am I imagining it, or is Firefox a faster browser, with clearer graphics and the same general utility as Safari. It's the first alternative browser I've tried, and I really like it a lot. Everything seems to load faster than Safari.

Must say, though, it's still a pretty lame choice by Gap/Banana Rep./Old Navy to design a web site that prevents access by Safari users, seeing as how Safari comes installed and ready to go on all Macs. Not sure why they'd want to make it difficult for us. Oh, well.....

Thanks for the tip re Firefox.

Thank you everybody! I ended up downloading Firefox as well. And BW and JDee, when I downloaded it asked me if I wanted to import my bookmarks, etc.

I called the Gap also, and they said they were aware of the problem and suggested downloading Firefox until they fixed the Safari problem. Odd, it worked earlier in the week!

Thank you again! Now, I'm off to buy some sweaters!
