Installing software (iLife 08) in OS 10.4.

Hope someone can help me. I'm using 10.4.11, and have just picked up a copy of iLife 08 as a Christmas present to myself. When I try to install it, the installer doesn't give me any options when it comes to the "select a destinaion volume". It's not that they're showing but greyed out, they're simply not being found at all. I've installed software many times before but never seen this. Any ideas?

I have over 100GB of free space on my hard drive, so that's not the issue.

Hi Trevor, what speed is your G5 iMac? 1.9GHz or better?

iLife '08 requires a Mac with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later and QuickTime 7.2 or later. Some other special system requirements [2] apply as well: iMovie '08 requires an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0 GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 at 1.9 GHz or faster; iMovie no longer supports PowerPC G4-based Macs. Also, iDVD requires a 733 MHz or faster processor.

Trevor,

I take it you were successful in installing iLife 08? I need to do the same thing so I was wondering if you had any pointers? I've got a 1.9GHz Power PC G5 iMac so it shouldn't be a problem. Where did you pick up the software? It looks like the newest stuff at the apple store is for 09? It appears that the requirements for the iLife 09 upgrade are higher than that of the 08 version.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, it was indeed succesful, and it looks like we have the same iMac, so there's no reason it shouldn't work for you.

I got the software from someone on eBay (having been adviced that iLife 08 was the highest version that could run on my system here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2258627&tstart=0).

There seems to be no shortage of copies out there. Best of luck!
