To choose iPhone: 3G 8gb, 3GS 16gb, or 3GS 32gb

I'm using an original iPhone now, and we plan to buy iPhone for my husband.
I can't decide which iPhone is good for my husband. I checked the site, and the differences between 3G & 3GS are
# Improved performance (2x speed?)
# 3-megapixel autofocus camera
# Video recording
# Voice Control
# Digital compass

For him, the faster speed seems very helpful but other advanced features not that necessary. And for the storage difference of 18gb and 32gb, is it still necessary to have bigger storage if he's not storing much song, videos and so on?

I think he mostly needs phone, email, web surfing, and calendar, and some time later he will add more features. Then, do we need to just buy 3G 8gb ($99) or 3GS 16gb ($199)? Please just give some suggestions what you think. Then, we decide easily.
Thanks much in advance!

I also think so. My iPhone is an original one and it's less than 8gb storage. I have about 50 songs, 5-7 videos, and 50 applications, and still lots of storage space left. Video seems take lots of space, but song & applications looks ok to me. I feel like 3GS 16gb seems good choice for him.

Is the 3GS 16gb($199) much faster (2x faster or enhanced performance) than 3G 8gb($99) for web surfing? What are the enhanced performances or faster speeds working on 3GS other than using 3G? Thanks.
