Error 0xE800005E...now nothing

I tried to connect my Touch 2nd Gen to my macbook, as i have always. This time i got the above error and now my ipod is unresponsive - i have tried turning the thing off (as others have suggested) but now it wont turn back on - the farthest it gets is the apple logo and then it turns itself off again - i have tried to do a hard restart (power & home buttons for 10secs) but that doesnt have any effect.

When i connect it now to the computer it doesnt show up either on itunes or via the desktop screen

Intel MacbookPro (13inch), Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Hmmm.. The only thing I can tell you to do is to force it into restore mode and then ask iTunes to restore it.

These directions should help you through that process:

If it continues to happen then a genius bar visit will most likely be needed.
