iTunes Gift Card-testing redemption code

With a family of five active Apple and iTunes users, it's not uncommon to "find" an iTunes Gift Card in a desk drawer or tucked away on a shelf. In fact, this afternoon I found 4 such cards. Two have not been "scratched" on the back, however the other two are. Is there a way to check the redemption code to see if it has been used, or is still active, without actually redeeming the card if it is still good? Thanks!

Thank you, Dave. Yes, obviously those with "paint" are live. I had two $25 cards that had been scratched and I highly suspected that the kids in the house had redeemed them. I went to my account and logged in one card, and voila - it was redeemed for $25. Not wanting to put $50 on my account (it would take me quite a long while to burn through that many downloads), I was hoping to "test" the second card. Too bad there's no way to test it - that would be a great service modification to the iTunes store programs.

I doubt Apple will implement such a service since it would assist thieves who could steal cards or codes (or create fake codes, which has happened in China) and then go through them one by one to see if they are valid without actually redeeming them. That would prove the code so it could be sold. So while I can't say it won't ever happen, I think it very unlikely.

Regards.
