XCode does not launch

XCode does not launch.

Disk Util has been run. Prefs plist files deleted. XCode completely un-installed. Installed XCode 3.2.1 with iPhone SDK. XCode never launches. Never installed Safari 4 Beta. Here are details, any suggestions?

Why does your Macbook want to call PPC functions? Something is seriously wrong with your machine. Are you experiencing any other symptoms?

Hi Joshua & welcome to the forums...

Did you update to 10.6.2 via Software Update or did you download the combo? If you used Software Update, get the 10.6.2 Combo updater instead and re-apply:

Be sure to make another permission repair pass as well.

I downloaded the combo, restarted, than used repair and it didn't help.
Some odd bits though is the last three times I've used repair permissions I've gotten the same result. I don't know if this accounts as weird, but the rest of my computer hasn't had a problem:

A thought occurred to me as to why my laptop is trying to use ppc, My old laptop was an iBook. I had everything moved to my macbook, including developer tools I believe.

Perhaps a hard reinstall is necessary, but I want to avoid that if possible.

Are you having trouble with anything other than Developer Tools. If not, just uninstall Developer tools and re-install them.

I hate to say it, but yes, that's how it is looking, sorry, especially since you seem to indicate you've already tried re-installing Xcode. That PPC stuff has to go, one way or another.

When you tried an Xcode re-install, did you take any actions to uninstall first?

When you do installs, like say for Xcode, do you let them install to the default locations? Do you move things installed by the OS, such as the Applications folder, etc.?

Used an uninstall that I found on an Apple website. When I installed xcode I did default locations, and no, I don't move files or folders around that I don't create myself.

One last thing you might try before re-installing the OS - create another user, just for testing, and login there and see what happens with Xcode...if it works there, the problem is most likely unique to your original account - if it still borks, the issue is global to the system.

So, if it works for a new user, then the issue must be caused by some kind of preference in your main user's folder somewhere. Does anyone know if there is a list of these files that could be deleted?

Also, Joshua told me outside of this forum that he has had a problem like this for quite a while. In a previous version of XCode (same machine, Leopard), he could click on the "Ignore" button, and still proceed to use XCode. But now there is no Ignore button...
