Macbook Slow to Boot

My Macbook Has just started to boot very slowly ( Around Ten Minutes).
A grey loading bar appears while it is booting and stays for this time.
No changes have been made to the macbook recently and I have all the latest updates installed.
I have doen a verify and reapir on the permissions with no affect.
I have also used idefrag to defrag the drive but again this hasnt helped

Next step is to reinstall the 10.6.2 COMBO update, repair permissions, and restart. If that doesn't do it, Boot with the install disc and reinstall SL, check out that normal booting occurs and then incrementally update it. If still no go, hook up an ext HD to the machine, install SL onto it, don't migrate, and see if it operates the machine normally. If so, then some software process is causing the issue and tracking that down will be daunting.
