Set a Background sound when a sent email is opened

I was just wondering if there was a way to set a sound file (.wav for example) to play automatically in an email I send to someone when they open it. I remember in a past life when I used Windows (sorry for using the "W" word) and in outlook express, you could either use a sound file as an attachment that had to be opened, or you could "set background sound" to play a file when the email was opened from the person who received it from me. I see I can obviously attach sound files, How do I force them to play when the email is opened?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Please note that what happens at the receiving end of an email exchange

is controlled by the way the recipient has configured their email client.

Not really. There is currently no way to force sounds to play upon receiving an email from someone. You could send HTML email with an embedded sound file, similar to email greeting cards. But that requires an email client that renders HTML email. Or, you could use JavaScript, but even if someone does that, it's dependent upon the recipient having JavaScript enabled. So you have two dependencies which you can never count on.
