connect ibook to samsung T190

Hello,

I have connected my samsung T190 to ibook using firewire port. But it looks like that is not suifficient to drive current and I need to connect the female power cable to another desktop computer from where it gets the power. Can someone tell me what it takes to get power via firewire to the display?

The iBooks of 2005 were G4s, not G3s. We'll ask a moderator move your thread to the correct forum here:

By the way, reading the specs of the T190, it only has a DVI and a VGA port. Firewire is a data transfer port, not a video output port. Since all iBook G4s have a mini-VGA port, you can only get 1024 x 768 mirroring of your video from the G4 to the T190 via a mini-VGA to VGA adapter from Apple.

Why are you trying to connect to it via Firewire?

Firewire comes in two varieties 400 and 800 as labeled here (the 400 is assumed where it just says Firewire alone):

Mini VGA looks like on the image below with the side of the computer shown and the end of the cable sitting on the top side of the keyboard:

It is this mini-VGA that will connect to a:

Hi!

Yes -it is the mini-vga port which i connected to samsung T190. That is, used the mini-vga to vga adapter shipped with the laptop to connect to the analog RGB cable. When I was using the HP 2035 lcd monitor in office, I remember/suspect that I did not have to plug in a seperate power source. The monitor I have in hand comes with a female power cord i.e. something that can only be plugged into a computer and since this ibook does not provide a socket, I am trying to find an alternate solution. [The T190 manual mentions that it needs to be plugged into a socket for a mac -but is talking of powermacs and not ibooks or imacs).

Mini VGA is not and has never been designed to carry power. So you will need to connect your LCD to the power grid in your house/work.

A standard power cord is a cheap and plentiful item. They collect in IT rooms and geek closets like dust. Ask one of your IT guys and he will likely have one to give you

That's correct, only PowerMacs have sufficient internal power in their power supply to power an external monitor. Radio Shack carries such power cords as well.
