Operating system for Power Mac G4

I have been given a Power Mac G4 and the guy who had it deleted the operating system. I am not familiar with Mac's. What OS would I need to get this up and running? I have been told that I would need the original OS, which they thought was OS9 and then upgrade from that.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver, Mac OS X (10.3.x), 800MHz/768MB SDRAM/2.1MHz

Anything from the computer's original OS up to and including Mac OS X 10.4.11. Mac OS X 10.5 will run on it but cannot be installed through the normal method.

No intermediate versions are required, but you cannot use a disk which shipped with another Mac model.
