Remove the space between Dock and New Windows

Depending on where you have the Dock positioned if you open a new window, it will automatically add a space between the edge of the new window and the edge of the screen that the Dock is located on. If you maximize the window to the full screen size and then close it and reopen another window it automatically adds the space between the window and the edge of the screen. I have been able to replicate this issue with the Dock on the left, right, and bottom of the screen. Does anyone know how to override this?

I have the auto hiding enabled for the Dock, but there still appears a thin space between the edge of the window and the screen. I can clearly see my background in this gap. If I move the dock to the right side and left justify my window it opens correctly at the edge of the screen. If I turn auto hiding off for the dock then all new windows open at the outer edge of the dock. I think this might be new for 10.6.2, but I'm not sure.
