What is the physical location of the DIMM 0 /J21 slot in a MDD FW800?

What is the physical location of the DIMM 0 /J21 slot in a MDD FW800?
I have RAM in all 4 slots. System Profiler is reporting DIMM 0 as empty, so that RAM stick must be bad.
BTW- I re-seated all the memory, no change in the Sys-Pro.
Problem is, I can't see any labels printed next to the RAM sockets.

If any one has a diagram or can tell me what the layout is, it would be appreciated.

well, dimm 0 should be the closest to the cpu heatsink, dimm 3 the most distant (I have only 2 dimms near the heatsink and osx report me as dimm 0 and 1 position).
but I own my G4 only 30 days ago so I'm not sure!

Does Apple follow the same pattern on all G4 Models? DIMM 0 closest to the Heatsink?
I'd like to find out so I can remove the dead memory module without guessing it's location.

I looked inside my G4 MDD (not same model as yours) and all 4 slots are labeled. The slot nearest the heatsink is J21, however, the numbers are in a weird order - J21, J22, J23 J20.

Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.

If you have the Apple Hardware Test disc, run it.

ops.. I did not looked inside mainboard... 😉

oh, a small question:
if on my MDD 1.25 dual I see a FireWire800 (under "about this mac - more" window) this means my mac is a firewire800 edition? (sorry if the question seems stupid).
also exist some MDD with only firewire 400?

Here's the spec sheets on the various G4 models.

At the bottom of the list are 3 FW800 models. All other G4s are FW400 models.

Looks like you're right!!
I opened up the G4 MDD FW800 and got me my stronger reading glasses and a halogen goose neck lamp. Wow! I can see tiny type next to the 4 memory sockets.
It's Laid Out Like this…

(HEAT SINK SIDE)
-----------------
DIMM0/J21
-----------------
DIMM1/J22
-----------------
DIMM2/J23
-----------------
DIMM3/J20
-----------------
(VIDEO CARD SIDE)

This layout matches the System Profiler- it shows the memory layout exactly like this. May be we can assume that the Sys Pro read out mirrors the actual physical memory locations, with the top of the list being the heat sink side of the memory sockets.
