An error pops up when i try to download the new iTunes

I keep tring to download the new iTunes, but everytime i try to, an error pops up saying an error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b 9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86".Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESLUT: 0x800736FD.
then after I hit ok. anther error will pop saying The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
Everytime I try to install iTunes, those two things pop up. What should I do?

A couple of questions.

(1) Do you currently have a copy of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package installed on that PC? If so, try downloading the following security update:

[Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update|http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-4 0ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en#filelist]

Does iTunes install for you after applying that update?

(2) If no joy there, head into your Windows Update and click on the Update History. Have a lot of Updates also been failing for you recently? If so, doubleclick on the entries for the failed updates to bring up more information on each. What error codes appear for you for the failed updates? (Precise spelling, please.)

Also when I try to check for updates it doesn't work, it just says that an error was found.

If you doubleclick on the entries for those failed Windows updates in your update history, Bon-Flo, does the little window that comes up also show that 800736FD error message code? Or do you get a number of different codes? If you get several different ones, could you let us know what they are?

Ahhhhh. Okay, if we can fix that one we can probably fix the iTunes problem as well.

The first thing to try with the 80080005 is an sfc /scannow. There's instructions for that in the following document:

[How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833]

If the scannow cannot fix any files, could you let us know what they are called?

Are you able to get Windows Updates after using the scannow?

Windows Reasourse Protection could not start the repair service

Crikey ... that suggests you might have a broken Windows Modules Installer (although I'd expect a different error message code on the itunes install if that was what was happening).

In Computer, open your C Drive. Right-click on the Windows folder and select "Properties". Go to the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Go to the "Owner" tab. *Don't change anything, we're just having a look.* Note down who or what is listed as the Owner. *Cancel out of all the tabs.*

Is the owner shown as trustedInstaller? Or do you instead see a dirty great long string of numbers? In particular, do you see: S-1-5-80-956008885-3418522649-1831038044-1853292631-2271478464 ?

theres this box, & in the box it names some "groups or user names" one of this is Trusted Installer, under that box it says Permissions for CREATOR INSTALLER. does this help?

Can you see an "Advanced" button anywhere in that box, Bon Flo? If so, when you click it, does it take you to a different box with an "Owner" Tab?
