3 hours to fully charge iPhone 3gs???

Is it normal for the iPhone 3gs to take upto 3 hours to fully charge considering battery was under 5% prior to charging?

iPhone 3gs (16GB), iPhone OS 3.1.2

Welcome to the discussions,
It takes longer to charge the phone if you use your phone by having WiFi or 3G enabled while doing this.

and Bluetooth as well since the device is continuously looking for devices, wireless networks, etc.

something to make sure is off. It takes about 1 hour - 1.5 hours to charge my phone full but may drain a little quicker than normal cause i havent had it on the charger for as long as I usual do when i charge it.

Thanks a lot Ingo & Ataylor for your explanations. My 3G is constantly on, although my Wifi, bluetooth, location services are constantly off. I guess 3G must be the reason for the long charges.
