SD card in the cd slot

My husband tilted so that the DVD slot was facing down so the card could slip toward the opening. While the whole PC was on it side then I stuck the paper clip in and the card came to the edge enough to grab and pull out.

Thanks guys. I will try this later when I have another pair of hands to help. I'm dreading having done any damage to the CD drive, I felt a few scrapes inside as I tried to pull the card towards the opening 😟

I was afraid too Steph..Mine is working ok though. I have the Imac and I tilted it on it's side so the dvd was point down..

IT WORKED! My friend tipped the Mac on the side while I fished around with a hair grip and it came right out 🙂 Thanks for the advice!!!

Titling it and a L shaped paper clip worked for removing a credit card from the optical drive that our daughter had put in there. Thanks for the advice.

Now I know what to do with those apple stickers they send with the machine- use them to cover the DVD slot so that does accidently happen again.

My daughter did exactly the same thing on her iMac - put the SD card in the cD slot without looking. I took a look, and I could see the card sitting in the slot, but when I tried to retrieve it I pushed it deeper inside.

Thank goodness for this thread! I started to try a paper clip, but no luck. Instead, I fashioned a tool out of a heavy cardboard pizza menu card. I folded it in half, trimmed it into an "L" shape, lay the iMac face down on a soft surface, and fished around inside... and out it came. I used the folded shape of the card as a sort of "v" shape to grab the corner of the card.

Time to come up with another design, apple!

I used a piece of card cut with an L shaped end and managed to hook the SD card out. Worked a treat. Thanks to all for the advice and ideas. To eject a CD disk if you tried to put one in (not a good idea but I realised this too late) then restart and hold the mouse down during restart.

Ahhhh, my daughter did this last night, but then she thought she could get it out by injecting a CD....((AHHHHH again)), then came and told me. I was able to grab the CD upon ejection but then slipped back in, this time it wasn't sticking out enough for me to grab and the ejecting wasn't even working by now, so used a flat tool I use for my cricut and kept pushing it in until it pushed back out and showed enough for me to grab the CD with tweezers. Then tilted my 27 in. (yes 27, and heavy) on it's side and did what someone suggested by making an L-shaped piece of cardboard paper and slid it back and forth and wa-la....it grabbed the memory card just enough to poke out and grab it again with the tweezers. I don't live near a support location and DID not want to tackle the Sat. Mall crowd, so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all of these great ideas! You made my day!

Cathy1956's trick worked for me. I cut a business card and reinforced it with tape, turned my Mac on its side, and out the card slid. This was after 45 minutes of trying to get it out with a rubber coated paper clip.

The simple L shaped piece of thin firm cardboard did the trick. Very simple and safe. I wouldn't recommend the safety pin because of the sharpness of the metal.

Thanks everyone for this thread, I used a plastic covered paper clip to free the SD card after about 5 mins. I agree with several others in this thread Apple should look at the location of the SD slot, I know it is easy to say we should all look to see where we are putting the SD card but its location is obviously a problem based on the number of posts here. Once again thanks for your help

Yes! The paperclip worked for me, too.

How is the inside of the disc drive designed? What are the odds that I touched anything to damage it? It is still running discs, but I feel very paranoid about it.
