I have recently purchased an AppleTV I downloaded several movies from the internet and several TV shows. All was working fine then the downloaded movies began not showing up on my ATV. They show up in my iTunes but not on ATV. So, I began the process of trying to correct the problem. I finally was lead to try to restore the factory settings...the final step go to iTunes and select Apple TV under devices. iTunes does not show any devices. How do I get iTunes to display devices and Recognize Apple TV?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

This is quite normal, after a period of time purchases will transfer to itunes from the tv, this is protect you against accidental loss.

A restore was unnecessary, to have the movies/tv shows that are now in itunes appear on the tv, just ensure they are checked (See This) and if you want them synced ensure they are selected under your sync options.

Have you removed the older tv link from itunes preferences, before trying to re-link the library.
