Redeeming a U.S iTunes gift card using a UK based iTunes account

I have been given a gift card from a friend in the USA. The gift card is for US$50.00 but on the back it says only for use in U.S iTunes store. Does this mean I can login to my UK iTunes store then click "Change Country", and use the US iTunes store to redeem my gift card? If so, do I have to set up another iTunes account to be able to redeem the funds in USDollars? Or can it be swapped for a gift card in GBP ? Any help would be much appreciated. Happy New Year ! J

I have the same issue...I have an US account but have received a Canadian gift card. How do I redeem?

That seems like a huge shame. I've emailed Apple and maybe they'll convert the CN funds to US $ in my account. Don't want to get into selling ITunes gift cards myself. Seems a BIT silly that they wouldn't have a ready answer to this probably common issue don't you think? Those of us who do business over borders probably get gifts like this all the time.

Evidently no way to use it. I contacted customer service and they were very nice about it, but they are not set up to exchange gift cards from different countries or to allow you to use the equivalent in your home country. They told me to either return it to the store who sold it or sell it.

I'm a bit surprised that Apple, as big as it is, can't handle accepting funds and crediting accounts. This seems to be a common problem with a simple answer.
