Shazam App question

I bought the old version of the free Shazam app on my wife's iPhone 3G under my iTunes account Back in July. This version is unlimited. I just got an iPhone 3GS, and bought the same free Shazam app on my phone instead of syncing it from iTunes. Now when I use the app on my phone, I am limited to 5 tags per month.

Checking the properties of the app in iTunes shows a purchase date of Nov. 13th which is incorrect, as I purchased it initially in July. This is probably the date that they updated the app to disable the unlimited tags.

Deleting the app from the 3GS and reinstalling from iTunes does not work. My understanding is that if you purchased the app before they instituted the restriction, you could continue to use it as unlimited. And this is still the case with our 3G phone.

How to reinstall the original unlimited app that I purchased before the 5 use restriction onto my 3GS?

The app is not particularly expensive (it is $4.99 though it was on promotion through the holidays for $2.99), but the terms of the update specified that those who purchased the earlier (pre-update) version of the free app would be able to continue using it in an unlimited fashion to tag songs. I purchased the earlier version of the app. and I am able to continue using it on the 3G phone that it was installed on before the update.

However, if I install the same pre-update version of the app on my new 3GS phone, I am restricted. I have sent an email to Shazam (as suggested) to clarify if I can use the original app on multiple devices, as is possible to do with all of my other apps.

I've got the free one too, like you am a cheapskate. I'm wary about updating because although it states I will still have unrestricted searches, I'm not taking the chance. Especially as the 'fixes' in the new version are not worth having for me anyway. It'll just be one of those nagging 'update available' items on the apps store list for me. But I must admit, the app does work great and in my opinion is worth the money being asked now.

Can anyone confirm if they have updated from a free version and kept the unlimited searches function as the app states ?

Well that helps me, I'll go ahead and update if only to stop one of the app update nags. But as for you, guess you'll just have to get the hanky out and pay up for a new version. You'll have to admit though, it IS handy. As you will have to pay though, have you considered Midomi ?. I haven't but I hear you can also hum a tune into this and it finds it.

I decided to purchase (Shazam) RED and am using it on my 3GS. My 3G phone continues to use the unlimited version of the free app. Support at Shazam did send the following clarification;

+The policy on retaining unlimited tagging is as follows:+

+A user will retain unlimited tagging ability on the iPhone application version 1.8 and above if:+

+- The user tagged using the iPhone application on a version prior to 1.8+
+- The user tagged using the iPhone application before 10 November 2009+
+- The user is using the same device that satisfies the above conditions.+
