Using Logic Live with Stemming Tracks and Click Track

Who is actually using Logic Live (Not Mainstage) to play Live stemming tracks for an Entire concert, from beginning to end??? All I keep hearing about is using Ableton, but absolutely hate the interface. It seems so freaking confusing.

I want to start doing steming tracks, and full instrumentation, without main keys, bass, and drums for a complete live performance. I'm producing for my wife and want to start planning her 12-song concert.

If you're not using Logic for this, then tell me what you are using and why? Even if you are using hardware, i.e. VS-1680!

Need help!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Hi J

I don't use Logic for live performance, I use Digital Performer, mainly because we have an extensive song list (400+) and calling up songs in Logic takes too long. DP has a function called "chunks" which can be used to put multiple songs into one project file and arrange them into set lists, or alphabetically as a master list. You can set the chunks window to play each song in order, or you can assign each song a number and select them from a controller. You can also change the order on the fly. Songs can be played one after the other automatically or you can set it to cue up the next song and wait for your start command

Since you only have 12 songs in your show, you could using Logic, put each song into one project, one after the other in the arrange window to make one long song. then you just have to press play and let it run. if you need to stop after a song you can do that manually or use meta data to automate the stop where you want.

You will be using a live drummer correct? Have you thought of how to send him a click track to follow? I use midi to a drum module sent into the drummers monitor.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your response Donald. My drummer friend who plays on high profile gigs, ie Marc Anthony, told me that all the big cats use Digital Performer as well for the same exact reason you mentioned to me with the folder option and all.

My idea of sending a click track to the drummer, would just be to use an audio version of a click track and route it to an axilary output. That particular track would contain the entire mix, but with the click track in it, along with vocal cues. I will be using a M-Audio Profire 610 that has 8 outputs.

I will control the functions from the Akai mpd.

What do you think of that?

No problem playing songs in any order on a list in Logic. Onstage from Fluqe. Or you can use a four button trackball and USB Overdrive software to assign close song and start song to two of the buttons.
Another way is to put the songs in the dock, (I think it'll hold a hundred) full magnification, and position the cursor over the upcoming song, and hit three buttons on the trackball. (close song, select and start from beginning assigned and remapped from USB Overdrive.) If you really want to get fancy, and have a Unitor, you can jump a midi in to midi out, have logic "send program change on song opening", assign an unused controller to "start song from beginning" in Logic prefs, and logic will start automatically when opened.
