How to turn off the microphone

Yea I know big brothers trying to listen in
but how do i turn off the microphone,
I am trying to record some audio playing from a mp4 video,
using Nero wave editor
so i can save the recorded audio as mp3,
but when i play back the sample,
i hear its picked up all the sound from the microphone,
how do i turn it off so i can record direct from the soundcard and not the microphone.

any help would be great...

Since you are running Windows directly, the setting would have to be within Windows, either in the overall OS or in the Nero program. The equivalent for System Preferences Sound pane is the Windows Control Panel +Sound and Audio Devices+ panel. Have you looked there under Sound Recording and Voice Recording, to see how it is set?
