Static IP Question

This is probably an easy answer but I can't easily test it at the moment.

If I assign my Macbook Pro a static IP address on my network (172.16.0.xxx) (connected via airport) to use for port forwarding on my router, will it still try to use this IP address when I connect to another network?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 15in, 2gb ram, 120gb hd

I'd expect so. You could define another "location" in the Network panel of System Preferences to keep your home settings separate from those you use elsewhere.

Just be sure that you enable the 172... address block in Airport Utility. Alternatively do the same thing in the default address block. In Network preferences use DHCP with manual addressing instead of DHCP. It would be a good idea to use an IP address somewhere in the middle of the block's range as the DHCP server tends to use IPs from the bottom or the top of the range for wired and wireless devices, respectively.

Im' not using a airport router, just the airport wireless card to connect to my Linksys WRT54G that is running DD_WRT.

It's already been moved from the 192.168.1.xxx range to 172.16.0.xxx to avoid VPN conflicts with the 192.xxx.xxx.xxx and 10.xxx.xxx.xxx ranges.

172.16.0.1-99 is used for my 3 wireless routers and things such as NAS and network printers.
172.16.0.100-199 is DHCP
172.16.0.200-255 is for Static Computer IP's
