Unable to use the microphone of my Sennheiser MM 450 (with iPhone 3GS)

I am the happy owner of brand new Sennheiser MM450 headsets/phones.

I am able to use them with no problem as headphones with my iPhone 3GS and very happy with them (the sounds quality is excellent).

However when I make or receive calls, the incoming sounds is going to the headset, but my voice is captured by the iPhone's microphone rather than the one of the headset.

I strongly suspect the issue is due to the fact that the iPhone is using the AD2P profile (which is great for music) and with this the microphone is not working. Can anyone confirm my assumption? And if yes is there a way to switch to the appropriate profile for phone calls.

Also I can confirm that when I pair then to my laptop, I can choose either stereo headset (which give good sound quality but the mic doesn't work) or mono headset (sounds quality is not that good but the mic works). I guess the iPhone needs to switch to the second mode during calls but is not doing it...

Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks.

I have tried ti un-pair and re-pair them, and there is no change ...

I have sent an email to Sennheiser support and awaiting their reply. But given the fact that the microphone works fine with my Macbook, I would more suspect some iPhone software issue with this particular headset :-s

Anyway if anyone has another suggestion in the meantime ...

Also wjosten if you are using them I would have a question. When I am using them in Bluetooth mode there is a slight hiss on the right side (nothing on the left). It is not too annoying and I can not notice it when there is music playing unless at very low volume. But would you have noticed the same thing or not? (when I use the cable directly connected to my iPhone or laptop, there is no hiss at all)

Here is the answer from Sennheiser:

+"Thank you for your inquiry and for contacting us.+

+It sounds like the iPhone is having trouble picking which mode it+
+should be using. The MM 450 is not faulty, as it is the slave device+
+in the relationship, and is simply using whichever functions the+
+iPhone tells it to.+

+I would consult Apple or their user forums to see if there is a fix+
+for the iPhone.+

+Let me know if you have any additional questions."+

I quite agree with the diagnosis, but I would have liked a bit more support ... there is an iPhone picture on the box of the headset and they advertise iPhone support. Anyway I will try to talk to Apple, hopefully they don't say it is the headset's fault.

Quick update: after being ditched by a not so smart sounding person from the Irish tech support because my phone was not purchased in the same country as the headset (though both where purchased from Apple!), I managed to get through a much more helpful lady.

She basically told me it should work and she doesn't know what is wrong. She asked me to try the headset with another iPhone 3GS and get back to her, which I will do as soon as I can find one. But whichever the result I am only mildly optimistic:
- If it works with another one it means something strange is wrong with my iPhone which is not able to pick the right Bluetooth profile whereas other ones are, and it will not be easy to troubleshoot
- If it doesn't work we will see what she says but my conclusion will be there is a bug in the iPhone Bluetooth implementation which does not let it switch Bluetooth profiles properly (or if not an iPhone bug at least some incompatibility with the Sennheiser headset).

Anyway I will post an update once this is clarified.

Follow-up: I have solved the issue by going to settings ? general/ reset and resetting the network parameters on the iPhone. After pairing the headset again it is working fine.

On annoying still is that the mic can only be use with the phone application (no voice recorder or Skype), but I imagine Apple/Skype would have to change something in the applications to achieve that.
