Safari not downloading .zip and .dmg files on Snow Leopard

Hello,

Something I noticed only after installing Snow Leopard (but I can't be sure it wasn't happening before) was that when I click on a link to download a file that has .zip and .dmg extension, Safari will open a new window and load the address but will not download the actual file. Refreshing the page doesn't do anything.
I have never had SpeedDownload plugin installed on my machine.

Does anybody can help me to solve this issue?

Welcome to Apple Discussions

Might be a corrupt Download file. Via the Finder, navigate as follows:
HD>Users>Your User Account>Library>Safari folder. There, move the downloads.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari.

When you open Safari, go to the Safari Menu>Reset Safari. There, select "empty the cache" and "clear downloads window", then select "reset".

Once complete try a download.

I have the same problem with downloads from Safari. Firefox works as usual though.

@Hawaiian_Starman: I tried all your suggestions and it will still not download. If I right-click on a link and chose "Download file" it all works great, but some pages activates the downloads without "ordinary" links.

I have got the same problem, it started probably a month ago. Sometimes it works to right click or CMD click and click download but for example on this page: http://www.mobileairmouse.com/ I can not download .dmg file. This problem also exists when trying to download .zip files.

Hey, I had the same problem and I finally resolved it. Go to your libraries folder then to Internet plug-ins and from there get rid of the files named igetter.... there should be two containint this phrase. Then empty the bin, restart safari and It works 🙂 Safari now can donload any files just with one single click.

Worked for me, thanks.

Although instead of working my way around the folders, I opened iGetter and deselected the integration with the browser option.

Unfortunately, your suggestion does not help in my case: I've got no igetter-files on my machine.
And the problem occurs not only with Safari, but also with Firefox!

The only way I can get .dmg-files is to download them on my Windows PC, put them into Dropbox and take them out of the Dropbox on my Mac - a rather queer solution.

I am having the same problem as Chris and the advice you provided did not solve my problem. When I attempt to download .dmg files using Safari and Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), the file does not download in the usual download window, but rather in Safari itself. This new tab in Safari is completely gray and the download url is visible in the address bar but nothing happens. Any further advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

In your Computers Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins, I removed Speed Download plug in and this worked for me straight away. I was having the issue in Safari AND Firefox...

All good now thank god!
