Typing Coming Through Speakers

THIS IS MY WORK COMPUTER (so don't be confused by the PowerMac listed as my computer)

Okay, this is weird. One day - all of the sudden - I began to hear the sound of my fingers typing on the keyboard coming through my speakers. This has never happened before...

I have gone to SOUND settings and the only way I can fix it is to turn off the internal mic... not something I prefer to do.

Somehow I have changed a setting so that there is now "micrphone play-through"

Any ideas?

This is strange indeed. One of the ongoing criticisms of the TiBook is that it does not have "audio play through," meaning that you can't listen to what you're speaking into the internal mic . . . .

Your PB seems to be doing just that. By any chance, do you have an audio app open which might account for this?

eww, if you're tuned in, any thoughts on this?

I need to be more specific.

The microphone is picking up the external sound of my fingers hitting the keys - the closer to the mic (left side) the louder it is in the speakers. More info. If I tap my computer to the left of the mouse I can hear the sound of my fingers as they hit the computer - much like if you were to tap a microphone.

Hi, tjk and Singitloud. I've been following this thread with interest, and at one point I wrote a suggestion to add to it — but apparently I hit the Back button instead of the Post Reply button, so as I discovered later, it was never posted. What I wrote was to reduce the sound input volume, in case the mic was picking up way more than it should because the input level was set too high. But then I tried boosting my own input level all the way to maximum, and still couldn't hear my own typing through the speakers. I gather from what you say, tjk, that I shouldn't be able to hear it through the speakers, so my suggestion neither changes anything for me, nor promises to help Singitloud at all. Sorry, but I'm in the dark too.

That is my understanding, and I've seen probably a dozen or so posts referring to it since I started coming here. There are apps which allow playthrough, but without such an app, if our TiBooks have that capability, it's news to me. I suspect Dwaine either has such an app or there is some kind of malfunction.

Sorry, but I'm in the dark too.

Glad you could join us. 😉

I indeed have an app that allows this: Audacity.

Methinks we be gettin somewhere.

Interestingly though, Audacity is only running when I choose to run it...

So the playthrough still occurs even when Audacity is not running (are you sure you quit the app, you didn't just close/hide the window and Audacity is still running in the background)???
