Yahoo Mail and SSL?

Is there any way to get Yahoo Mail on the phone to use SSL? As far as I'm aware Yahoo Mail on the iPhone doesn't use SSL since the option doesn't exist in the account settings on the phone. That means that when using WiFi anyone can intercept not only your email text, but your login info as well.

There is a SSL IMAP4 server at imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com, but it won't work with regular IMAP4 clients and I doubt that can be used on the phone or even if it can, whether push mail would work. My guess is that it wouldn't work on the iPhone.

I've tried emailing Yahoo Mobile's iPhone support division, but even though they acknowledge the iPhone is connecting to imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com IMAP4 server for Yahoo Mail (which doesn't support SSL), they tell me I need to contact my carrier (AT&T) as they say AT&T runs the IMAP4 server while Yahoo runs the POP3. This makes no sense to me since the server is obviously in the yahoo.com domain.

Does anyone know how to secure Yahoo Mail on the iPhone?

Does the option existing when creating the account as an IMAP account beginning with "Other" instead of using the Yahoo account preset? It should. Doing so may not provide Push access for received messages but should provide for enabling SSL with the incoming and outgoing mail servers of Yahoo supports this. If Yahoo doesn't support this with this account, it won't make any difference.

If not, I suggest switching to another account that does support SSL for incoming and outgoing messages.

I ended up sending an email to Yahoo again and this time I got a response stating:

"I would like to get your product suggestion of SSL for IMAP access via WiFi in front of the Yahoo! Mobile Product Group for review as I also feel that it is important."

It's probably a canned response though.
