I accidentally deleted an email tonight as I was reading it (hands are so cold they were shaking!).

However, when I delete an email it never goes to the Trash folder so there is nothing to undelete.

The email account is my Gmail account using Exchange ActiveSynch.

The email is gone from my online Gmail account too.

I have since turned on the "ask before deleting" option!

Is there any way to get that email back? Shouldn't they go to the Trash folder?

Try accessing your Trash folder from a computer instead of the iPhone.

Thanks for replying. How do I check iPhone mail on the computer (I'm on a Windows XP PC)?

There is no such thing as iPhone mail. What is your email provider? Check email from the computer ie. hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc.

As above the email provider is Gmail. As above I have checked Gmail from the computer but the email is no longer there.

When I say "iPhone mail" I mean... well I'm not sure how to explain it any other way - the programme which comes installed on the iPhone with which you handle emails on the device, be it Gmail, Exchange, Yahoo, Exchange etc.

I'm specifically looking to undelete an email which was deleted from the iPhone Mail.

you are referring to the Mail application on the iphone as "iPhone Mail"... there is no "iPhone Mail"

the mail application just goes to the gmail servers and grabs your mail, anything you do in the mail app will be reflected on the gmail server. so if you deleted something on the phone then you deleted it from your gmail account, which means it's gone.

ah ok, guess my 2nd explanation was more accurate then. Glad I was understood in the end!

Thanks for comment. I had presumed that similar to the Sent folder when a sent email gets moved to the Sent folder on both the iPhone and Gmail, it would move the email to both Trash folders. No it just gets completely deleted on the iPhone leaving a rather redundant Trash folder.

However, I am happy to say that it in fact did not seem to delete the email from Gmail. I'm sure it did previously when I had this problem.

So I have my missing email, I have activated the 'confirm before delete' option, and calm has been restored to this tiny part of the world.

Thanks for help all. I'll pay it forward.

It will move to the trash folder if you have the trash folder set in the preferences. You need to go into settings and under mail, contacts, calendars select your gmail account, then select advanced and under mailbox behaviors you need to click on deleted mailbox and set it to the trash folder.
