iPhone Backups and reinstalling iTunes

When I tried installing the updated software for my iPhone 3G last night something went wrong with my computer (or iTunes) and it did not install the software on my phone. I've had this happen before and Apple told me to reinstall iTunes, but I'm wondering if I reinstall iTunes will I lose my last iPhone backup?

No.

Your backup files are located here:

On a Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

On Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

On Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

One more question on this...when I reinstalled iTunes it asked if I wanted to "Restore" or "Remove". I tried both with no luck on "Restore" but when I selected "Remove" a pop up box asked if I wanted to "completely remove iTunes". You said that my music and back up files are separate so if I select yes will my files still be safe?
Thanks!
