Ibook G3 OS and Browser Question

I just purchased a G3 800mz last week online. I thought would be able to do the updates on Apple website to get this thing up and running. As I started reading some of these posts im wishing I wouldn't have bought something so outdated. Im running Version 10.2 and have all install disks for the laptop. Im wondering if I can even update software and how much it's going to cost me. Im running a version of safari that it said would not work but it partially does. I guess I was just trying to get the browser the best possible way without spending an arm and leg. Any suggestions I would greatly appriciate.

I have that exact model running OS 10.2.8.

I had to hunt around on the FireFox web site but finally downloaded and set up version Firefox/1.5.0.1 for the Mac.

I tried the browser Opera at first but could not get to my Hotmail account, so then I tried this version of FireFox and it works great.

These liitle macs are great utilitarian notebooks but limited in what they can do because of there age. I use mine mainly as a lightweight travel notebook and also like the built in apps, especially iPhoto.

I have a new Toshiba laptop but prefer this little mac when using old fashioned dial-up via Net-Zero, as the Toshiba is a lot slower on dial up because of using Windows Vista, too much overhead (bloated operated system) on Vista for dial-up.

I am picking up an Apple 16 gb wi-fi iPad in a couple of weeks, and will use it when I want the high end cutting edge features for travel, but for any everyday inexpensive runner, the iBook is fine.

I also installed MSOffice for the Mac version 2004, and picked it up for around 60 bucks used at eBay.

Also it help to max out the RAM with a 512 mb simm card. Easy to install, the slot is below the removable keyboard.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have not used a mac for several, several years. The last one was a Mac II FX.

After buying a brand new Toshiba this last year, with a 2.5 ghz processor, 180 gb hard drive, 3 gb RAM and a 17" screen, running Vista - I WILL NEVER BUY another Windows machine. It was so disappointing to still deal with freeze ups, and having to hit the ctrl-alt-del on a regular basis. WINDOWS IS CRAP!

The little iBook I bought for a hundred and fifty bucks on eBay is one of the best laptops (notebook, a better description), I have ever owned. Has not locked up even once!

I am now a Mac convert - Thanks again for the Welcome.

Greg
