Moving photos around on iPhone

I have a 3GS. I'd like to move images to and from the Camera Roll and Photo Library files. Also, I'd like to move photos around within each of these files so that like photos a bunched together; example: boats with boats, doors with doors, grandkids with grandkis.

A)Can these actions be done?
B)Can someone give me a 'for Dummies' overview how to do either?

A. No, not on the phone itself.

B. The photo sync is one way, computer to phone. You import the photos from your camera roll, and once on your computer you can chose to sync back to your phone and arrange in various albums(done on your computer).

Note: When you sync the photos back to your phone, they will be reduced in resolution to fit the phone's screen.

And will the iPhone put them in its own order (based on the name or some such), or will they be in the order I've got them on my Mac that I sync to the phone?

You'll have a hierarchy similar to iphoto:

Camera Roll
Photo Library
Album A
Album B
Album C

I don't really use iPhoto, so I'm not sure what you're saying...will I be able to direct an order on how they are bunched together in a file? Or will the software do its own order?

You create albums, on your computer, for the various photo groups you want on your phone. You select those albums in itunes under the photos tab. They sync to your phone & will appear under photo library in alphabetical order. As previously pointed out, reduced in resolution for display on the phone's screen.
