Q: oler pb 5300 and the web

i have an 5300 powerbook, running 7.5.3. Wondering where i can get a web browser or email download (via an imac) burn it to a CD, and load it to the powerbook. i do have a 4X cd reader. the existing software on the PB can connect to the web, but the borwser and email don't work.
what i really want is to connect the old powerbook to the newer imac, but nothing seems to work there. so i figure that if i can email files back and forth, that is worth pursuing.

powerbook 5300, imak

    Hi,

Wondering where i can get a web browser

There are not too many possibilities. Use, for instance, the PPC version of iCab 2.9.9, or the text-based WannaBe.

    or email

You could try an older version (such as 3.1.3) of Eudora Light (the "Previous Installers" link here). If your ISP requires SMTP authentication, it is even possible (through a special technique) to make Eudora 4.3.3 work on a System 7.5.3/7.5.5 PowerBook 5300.

the existing software on the PB can connect to the web, but the borwser and email don't work.

I suppose that you have a PPP (modem, dial-up) connection. Have you checked the TCP/IP settings? If necessary, use the Network Software Selector (in an Apple Extras folder) to choose Open Transport networking.

Instead of an Ethernet PC Card (with Mac drivers), you may want to test a wireless connection. This web page could perhaps be of interest to you.

Depending upon the combination of the operating systems involved, a "normal" file sharing setup is not always easy or possible. This program may be useful in some cases. Otherwise, an FTP (or web) server/client solution can be used.

Alternatively, a CompactFlash card in a PC Card adapter for CF (one example) would allow fast transfers.
