Somebody understands this?

I have TC and TM set up for 2 Macs. Since some time have regularly problems with the back-up. I installed TM Buddy and here is what it says:

Attempting to mount network destination using URL: afp://Bart%20@Shuttle.local/HAL%20
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://Bart%20@Shuttle.local/HAL%20

Please someone can shed a light on this?

Happy New year!

Is the space that seems to be at the end of that volume name intentional? If not, I'd remove it.

Another thing you might to is to check for extraneous entries in the /Volumes directory. With that Time Machine volume not mounted, use the Finder menu item "Go" to "Go to Folder". In the resulting window type "/Volumes" (without the quotes). If you see anything there other than for your boot drive, you may want to delete it.

Thank you William,

This space you are referring too, is it this one?: "HAL "...
well if this is the space, I don't know where to eliminate it.

I deleted 1 alias in the go to folder, it was my own HD and left Volume HAL in there. I just checked and it got changed in this name: HAL -1.

Trying to start backup from both Macs I get this message:

TM could not complete the backup.
The backup disk image "/Volumes/HAL /MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 22).
The backup disk image "/Volumes/HAL /iMac.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 22).

I have been looking in the help sections but don't find the "final" solution. I already tried many things before. When looking up the TM in the AP utility, I see the TM on the sidebar, but it does not let me read the configuration. So I tried repairing, I tried resetting I tried lots of things people are talking about in this community. Before the volume had another name and it had also similar problems. I took a different name thinking that this way after resetting reinstalling it would not inter fear with some older keychains etc.

The only solution I see working is disconnecting the TC and let it cool of for the night.
Don't think that it was meant this way, they might as well designed some nice power off switch on the TC.

Little update I just took away this empty space you mentioned; after I disconnected TC, I could get into the configuration and also it does again the backup for the MB Pro. Tried with the iMac (is connected through ethernet cable + WIFI and this is what the machine says:

Connection failed

There was an error connecting to the server "Shuttle.local". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.

If you are unable to resolve the problem...

I used to have nicer bedtime stories 🙂

It would have better to leave the entry for your boot drive alone and remove just the ones that start with "HAL" (assuring that "HAL" is unmounted while you do that).

Once your /Volumes folder is cleaned up, reinitialize Time Machine and see if it now works better.
