iPhone 'touch' not working after replacing front glass

I replaced the front class/digitizer of my iPhone 3g and now the touch isn't working at all, what could be the problem? The phone still powers on fine the touch just isn't working at all, I can't even turn the phone off.

As I already said, it could be you installed it incorrectly, or there is another broken part or connection you didn't repair. Only proper testing can determine exactly what the problem is.

You didn't say at all what problem the phone had that led you to replace the digitizer in the first place. The fact that the phone "isn't working at all" and can't be turned off suggest there is a lot more wrong. You may have really screwed it up when installing, or other parts than the digitizer malfunctioned.

This happened with my wife's iPhone 3GS this week actually. She dropped her phone and the screen cracked. About a year ago I had washed an iPhone 3G in the washing machine...after I got a new one, I took the old one apart just to see what it was like inside. The one thing I saved was the screen (just in case I dropped mine sometime).

So I took hers apart and tried to replace her 3GS iPhone with my old 3G touchscreen. Everything went perfectly, I put it back together and the touchscreen didn't work. So I took it apart again, and again, and again. Come to find out, the connector pin #2 is different on the two models. Everything was exactly the same other than that. Funny thing was that they were so close to each other that you couldn't tell the difference between them. The old one even fit into the space, and stayed attached.

Point is...you may want to make sure you have a 3GS phone with a 3GS touchscreen...or a 3G phone with a 3G touchscreen. If you look at the connection pin #2 they are different.

Hi modular747,

i admit i broke my phone while replacing the glass, but now that it is broken, i would like to learn about what happened so that next time i do not make the same mistakes. i learned a great deal this time (last time i did not even try to replace the glass, just got a new phone). my issue is i cannot for the life of me find a manual online or in the bookstores that show me how the internal parts should be connected correctly. i watched a dozen youtube videos, etc. but i have done something extra wrong with a part that is not labeled and it is a part that i cannot see in these videos that is never addressed. any ideas where i might find a good internal guide to the iPhone?

when i put my phone back together, there were lines all down the screen, it would not respond to touch, and i could see a small piece of metal plate bent down in between the glass and digitalized plate (?), so i opened it back up and tried to put gently bend the metal back to where i thought it was suppose to go but now it will not light up at all.
