How do I not include footnotes in my wordcount!?

Please help me I'm new to pages and I'm stuck!

I'm writing my dissertation and the word count is not meant to include footnotes, how do I not include footnotes in the word count?

Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Nope! You are over complicating this issue. There is a running word count at the bottom left of your pages window. Hitting cmd-A will select everything except for the footnotes. The word count will then say the total of highlighted words, and the ultimate total.

This feature is described (like numerous others) in Pages User Guide !

In the edition of january 2009, it's in page 40.
The Index contains a reference to 'word count' pointing to page 39.

I'm sorry if my last response was a little rude, I'm not trying to start a fight here- but i don't think the OP's question has anything to do with text boxes. I can't imagine why a dissertation would include a text box. If s/he is writing a paper, and doesn't want footnotes included, then all s/he has to do is cmd-A the whole thing, and pages will generate a word count excluding foot notes.

I don't think there is a way to stop it.

I have never seen anywhere that offers controls over what is counted.

By reading the Pages Help I found that when you use the Document Inspector > Info and select the text (omitting the footnote) you can choose to see the statistics in the Selection.

Can you give a detailed path to that feature fruhulda?

Thanks fruhulda, but it will not be possible in all cases to make a selection that includes all the text when some of it could be in textboxes.

Then do a separate word count for the text boxes! The question was to omit the footnotes.

conveniently, if you hit cmd-A pages will select everything except for your footnotes. Your word count will then not include footnotes.

(Turns out I have another 134 words)
