Blue green external display problem

When I plug the mini dvi to vga adaptor in at first the external monitor is fine but the slowly it turns a turquoise color and at times become seriously turquoise. Has this happened to anyone else. The dongle has to be jiggled to fix it but that only lasts a few minutes and then it is back again.
