minimum length for stills ?

Hi everybody,
I wanted to import stills in a movie in a way that they would not look so much as stills.
I thought I would reduce the length of time to 1 sec.
When I wanted to render that part (a few images) I got a message saying "general error"
Is there a minimum length of time required for the stills ?

No. Stills can be one frame, or 2 minutes. What FORMAT are these stills? Not just .jpg or.tif, but RGB, or CMYK?

From the original picture that I import, and which is about 5 minutes, what is the best way to reduce the length to a few images ?
Is it better to change user preferences BEFORE I import ?

I don't understand. Pictures don't really have a LENGTH. I mean, FCP can import them as 1 frame or 5 min....and that is in the User Prefs. But reducing the original picture to a few images...that throws me. The picture...a STILL picture, is ONE image. So how can you reduce ONE image to a few images?

Sorry Shane,
I was confused by my problem.
Yes, RGB.
Yes only one image. Just a matter of time length allocated to the image.
I started with 5 seconds. I wanted to go to 1 and then I got my "error problem"
In the meantime, I have redone it and it seems to work now ....
To go back to my question,is it better to change preferences for time before importing the still or is it OK to reduce the time allocated once the still is imported in the sequence ?

If you know for sure that you want all your clips 5 sec or 3 sec or whatever, then yes, set that duration in preferences before you import. Or you can set the duration in preferences to say 10 seconds, then import your pictures. When you load one in the viewer you can type in the duration in the upper left corner. This gives you a little more freedom. Or you could shorten it on the timline...lots of ways to do this.
