Modifying Normal.dotm (Default Template in MS Word)

I would like to change the style of the normal.dotm template in MS Word on my Mac. Sadly, I update it the way I do on a PC and I get a pop up that says "Word cannot give a document the same name as an open document."

Not sure what to do! :o(
