Wide screen preview in iDVD with a 4:3 aspect project

I saved a .mov, not self contained, SD 4:3 project as a Quick Time Movie from Final Cut Express. When it was dragged into iDVD and previewed, iDVD showed that the preview was running in widescreen even though iDVD was clearly set to 4:3. I created an image and then a DVD disk and sure enough it was widescreen.

I solved the problem with hints from the discussion page but my approach was different. I opened the .mov file in Quicktime 10, and merely did a "save as" with a new name and it now worked ok in iDVD.

Hi there-

Thanks for the tip. I was hopeful this would have been a quick fix for my same problem. Unfortunately, no dice.

I suspect that there is an enhancement either in Snow Leopard and/or QT10 that enabled the resave/rename solution of the wide-tending movie. In my case, I have yet to upgrade my OSX on my MacBook. Maybe that's what is holding me back.

However, I did successfully re-export the movie using QTPro (v7.6.4) to a separate QT .mov. I used this and it worked in the proper SD format in my iDVD project. BUT, the export technique did not enable the retention of Chapter markers. My intended work around is to use Garage Band to re-export the original .mov into an .mp4 version for the iDVD project.
