I got my iMac on Christmas, and it makes a weird noise when i open things like safari. it sounds like a dial up computer. heres the video of what it sounds like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERQ1yF4mSg8 . Is this normal and can someone tell me what my iMac's doing?
I wasn't able to load that video, but from your description, it sounds a little like classic GSM interference. Do you have a GSM phone, such as an iPhone, nearby? If so, try moving the phone away from the iMac and see if that helps.
I put the video on like 5 mintues ago so try again in like 20 mintues. I dont have any phones near my iMac, I have the apple remote next to it though. the noise happens when i open something like safari. I have an iPod Touch and my phone in my room, but there far away and my phone is from verizon which is a CDMA phone.
Yes, now that I hear it, that's the closest match I can think of too. I would take it in to your nearest Apple store (hopefully they'll be able to take it to a quiet area to listen) and let them gauge whether it's a problem.
Okay so so if its the hard drive, why is it doing that? As soon as i turn the computer on it does it, even when i dont do anything sometimes it does it. I really dont want to send it to the apple store because ill miss it ahaha but if thats what i have to do i will. thanks for the reply but what do u think is wrong with it? is it a bad hard drive? i think its a seagate drive.
imac specs:
500GB hard drive
3.06 GHZ
nVidia GeForce 8800 GS
2GB of 800 MHz ram
There seem to be differing opinions on what you should do about this. I am now convinced that it is the drive and as a result, I suggest that you take it back to the store and have them decide on what course of action is required.
