Computer Authorizing- old Ipod shuffle- updateing aol account to apple ID?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread- my problem is a little bit of everything.

Recently upon cleaning out the apartment I found my fiance's old 1st gen. Ipod shuffle. I own a Mac Book Pro and we decided to upload the old 2005ish songs to my computer since he had quite a collection going at the time. When putting the Shuffle into the drive a message pops saying "the current iPod is synced with another iTunes library" and then follows by asking if I would like to "Erase and Sync" or "Transfer purchases", wanting to keep the songs we choose to "transfer purchases", but nothing happened. (I am able to click on his iPod under the "Devices" tab and see all the songs within the ipod but they're all grayed out.)

Trying to work around the problem I logged on my Windows Vista 64bit and tried accessing the raw files from the iPod drive files and then transferring them back to the mac, luckily I was able to transfer all of the songs burned from CD's, but all of the songs he had bought off of itunes required "Computer Authorization" from the ID he originally downloaded them from- the problem is the original ID is an AOL email account, which Apple no longer accepts.

I went and updated his AOL ID to an Apple ID but when trying to access the old downloaded itune songs from his Shuffle it still says I must confirm them using his original AOL ID which is no longer accepted or in use by Apple-

Any easy fix around this? I plan on having to call Apple directly to fix this problem but if anyone can recommend a quick fix I would be more than grateful-

Thanks!

You say the old aol account is "no longer accepted by or in use by Apple." On what do you base this? A lot of people assume because their old e-mail they used as an account ID with Apple is no longer a valid email account, that they cannot use it for Apple/iTunes. The e-mail is merely an ID or user name. You say you updated the AOL ID to an Apple ID. How did you do this?

What one should do in this case is use the old ID and password to authorize the tracks, as tracks must be authorized by the account under which they were purchased. You should also log in to the account (using the AOL ID and the password you created with it for iTunes) and access the iTunes account and update the e-mail address associated with the account to a now-working e-mail. This way you'll receive receipts and be able to communicate with the store when necessary.

Does that make sense?

When it prompts me to "authorize" the songs, it tells me the account is an "AOL ID" not an "Apple ID" and that Apple no longer uses "AOL ID's" for itunes- it then prompts me to create a Apple ID, so technically, on my mistake it is "creating" a apple ID not updating his old- but, upon using his old "AOL ID" and password to attempt to authorize the songs it simple tells me itunes does not support AOL ID's anymore thus not letting me use his old account to authorize-

Thanks for the quick response though- I'll check back tomorrow morning before calling if someone can come up with anything else.
