Set Poster Frame not working??

I can't seem to get the 'Set Poster Frame' option to work on iTunes regarding my movies and Tv Shows. Most of my movies that I have at the moment seem to use the same poster frame which is frustrating but when I choose to reset the poster frame from the contextual menu, it doesn't work.

Any ideas?

MacPro Quad Core Xeon 2.66GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.2), 24'' LED Cinema Display

Puh-leeze, some expert, puh-leeze answer our cries! I have the same problem. Setting the 'poster frame' for a given video (an ep of a TV show) does NOT seem to have any effect on the icon for the show in the listing of the shows. Nor does it seem to have any effect when I stream video to my Apple TV. In fact, I don't see any point at ALL to setting poster frame, unless you have only one episode of something.

Hi there, i'm glad to hear that i am not alone. I am slightly puzzled however as to why you feel you wouldn't need to set the poster frame unless you only had one episode of something?? What do you mean?

Two Things I guess - read this (and the note at the bottom) and determine if this applies to you:

2nd thing would be - even if you're not syncing files to the apple tv and are using file streaming- you may need to perform a manual sync to get the updated poster frame on the Apple TV

I have tried the 'set poster frame' option from the movie window many times and it still doesn't change the poster frame so i'm not sure what is wrong.

Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

Try this:

Open the movie in a separate window
Set your poster frame
Close the window
(confirm that the icon in iTunes has been updated with your new poster frame)
Immediately set the movie to "unwatched"

Don't know why, but that appears to have solved my problems.

False alarm, this does not solve the problem

A less-then-convenient workaround for setting a poster frame that iTunes/iOS acknowledges:

1) Prepare a poster frame (jpg, png, tiff, etc. file - but NOT the default pct export from QT Pro) and save it on your hard drive

2) Import your movie into iTunes

3) In iTunes, Control-click on movie title; select "Get Info"

4) Click "Artwork" tab and click "Add…"; choose the image from step 1

5) Click OK to save

6) You may then copy it from your iTunes library to your final destination

right clicked on a video in my itunes library, reveal in finder. opened it up in quicktime, took a screenshot using cmnd shift 4, added the screenshot png as the artwork, immediately showed up in my apple tv as the poster frame. annoying that i have to go through all that instead of just setting the poster frame in itunes, but oh well i guess.
