I recently downloaded some HD video from a website and converted it in iTunes to a format that would play on my Apple TV. I then synced the video to my Apple TV and it plays beautifully on my HD TV except for one thing. I noticed that the image is larger than the television screen causing some of the picture to be chopped off on the left and right.
Is there a setting in the Apple TV to scale the image so that it fits the screen horizontally? It seems like there should be black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, but the image scales larger to fill the screen vertically causing the image to be cropped horizontally.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

The ZOOM on my television is not enabled. When playing video from my Apple TV, the television provides two options when pressing the zoom button on my television remote, WIDE and ZOOM.
When set on WIDE (which is the correct setting) the problem above happens. When set on ZOOM, the image is scaled even larger.
I guess I will keep looking at settings on my television. The problem is not a huge one as it only crops what seems to be an inch on both sides, but obviously I want to see the entire image.
I think that the problem is in you converion process...
play the movie in iTunes and see if you are missing something... if it is the same as your TV, go back to your conversion SW and check your settings...
I have the same problem. I opted to restore to factory defaults, it looked like everything was working and then I accepted the latest apple tv update and the same thing happened. Image is bigger than my screen.
