lost itunes icon from taskbar and lost access to itunes library
Through some inadvertant trickery I managed to delete the itunes icon from the bottom desktop taskbar on my Macbook (double clicked and it disappeared?!?). I located an alternate itunes icon within Finder & dragged onto the desktop. I clicked on the new icon and it was not linked to my library. I frantically started clicking and dragging random itunes library files (.xml, etc.) from Finder in an effort to recover the library. Now I have 3 different random itunes folders (all back in Finder) containing various files types and I don't know what to do. I can't seem to find or recover my original library. Should I sync from my ipod to create a new library in itunes??? I tried dragging the file that I presumed contained my macbook library from Finder directly into the Library file within itunes and that didn't work... HELP!!!
Let's take a look in your home folder & see if your music is still present.
In
Finder, click on the house icon in the sidebar. Then, click on
Music, followed by
iTunes. You should see a folder in here labeled *iTunes Music*. Do you?
Now, what you can do is re-import it to your library.
If iTunes is open, close it.
Hold down the
Option key while clicking on the iTunes icon in the dock. This should bring up a dialog stating that iTunes needs a library in order to continue. Click the *Choose library* button, then navigate to the folder you found earlier.
This should bring your music back safely.
If you get stuck along the way, feel free to ask questions!

The applications should be stored in that same folder(the
iTunes one inside your home folder), inside a folder called *Mobile Applications*. First make sure this folder exists.
If so, what I would try is this:
With iTunes open, click the
File menu & choose *Add to Library*. Navigate to the *Mobile Applications* folder and click on
Open.
