Turning Laptop running Logic 9 into multichannel tone generator

Turning Laptop running Logic 9 into multichannel tone generator - How do I do this??

I have my G5 running logic 8, and I have a new macbook pro (logic 9 installed) that I want to slave as a multichannel sound source for software instruments to relieve some load on my G5.

- I set up the macbook pro as a MIDI device in the Audio MIDI setup (sends receives 16 channels)
- I loaded up Logic 9 - set Ivory on one software instrument, and MOR drums on another - each with unique MIDI channels
- For Ivory I set the MIDI channel to 1 (instead of the defaulted "ALL")
- For MOR Drums I set the MIDI channel to 2
- For my G5 running Logic 8, I created two MIDI instrument tracks, each triggering the Mac (on port 2)
- The midi track controlling Ivory is transmitting on channel 1, the midi track controlling MOR is on channel 2

When I playback the piano track on my G5 running Logic 8, I have to record enable the piano track on logic 9 just to hear it. Same with the drums. The problem I am having is the drums play the piano part along with the piano.

There must be another way to do this . . what am I doing wrong here?

G5 Dual 2 GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
