This solution is working from me, thanks for the help. I am unable to get iMessage to work, however, because it says my email address is already in use. Any one with the two ID problem able to activate iMessage?

Not sure if this helps, but in the support article you linked to (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4895), you have to scroll down and click on the situation of 2 ID's that you have and it will expand and give you your answer. Seems like you didn't get that far in the linked article from what you pasted.

    Hope that helps.

You can now at least change your non-email Apple IDs into any email address (use one of your *@me.com accounts) and then you can then move that me.com account into an iCloud account. I have also heard occasionally of people calling apple to merge moblie me accounts, but i wouldn't count on it. You can change your ID at appleid.apple.com and click on manage your account.

Well, let's list some of the issues that I'm having so far since upgrading to iCloud from MobileMe...

    - Can't check email via Mail.app

    - Can't update apps in MAS account

    - Useless MobileMe sync icon now stuck in menubar (now fixed)

Nevermind that I still needlessly have 2 separate iTunes accounts.

I am not making "a mountain out of a mole hill."

Also, I read the linked support article in full before I (correctly) lamented about how a particular section made no sense.  The solutions to my problems are nowhere to be found in that article.

I don't mind suffering the fate of having one Apple ID for iCloud and a different one for Store Purchases.  I do mind my purchases from my two (2) iTunes Store accounts not being readily available for sync without a hassle.  All I ask is to be able to either a) merge these two iTunes Store accounts, or b) transfer my purchases from one account to another.

If there are solutions to the problems I described above, please help me figure it all out.  I'd love for this to work the way it should.

Holy moly this thread is falling off track. I, like the OP, have the same problem. I have to use this old dumb @$$ e-mail adress that I don't like, just for Itunes and then the other 99% of my life is through my mobile me account. I would kill to be able to change my Itunes login to @me.com, just pick one adress and use it for everything.

I think this is a huge fail on apple's behalf. it's very annoying having to maintain multiple accounts for no reason. I don't even have access to this adress anymore and can't get any notifications from apple about my account. I could change it, but then I would have to open another e-mail adress that i would never use and would only add more fail logs to apple's raging fail fire.

Well, I feel your pain. But here is some hope from a solid source just last month: http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/16/apple-working-on-allowing-the-merging-of-mul tiple-apple-ids/

So far the information here is very useful.  I am wondering if it is just a matter of time when this gets resolved from the top down.

So I just updated my Ipad and went to Itunes reinstall a previously purchased app and none of them were there. I got to thinking and looked at the logged in name and apparently, when I was setting up the Ipad, it just mmagically created a whole new Itunes account using my @me.com account. It had the credit card info and adress from when I started my @me.com account auto populated in it. Weird as crap. I would like to keep the account, but I have thousands of dollars invested in my @cableone.net Itunes account. I wish I could just change my @cableone.net account adress to my @me.com adress.

I0keman, yes, you have had that account all along and you just didnt realize it. That is, you have actually had 2 itunes or apple ID accounts all along (your cableone and your me.com account). You have been using your cableone account to purchase in itunes and your me.com account has not been used all this time...until now. Go to settings on your ipad ,then pick the "store" setting, and reenter your cableone account info to continue the setup the way you have had it.

You can also change your cableone.net account to use your me.com email address as a forwarding email address for contact emails by going to www.appleid.apple.com. Unfortunately, you won't be able to change the cableone.net user id name to the me.com account name...it will give you an error message if you do that...wish it were that easy.

Well, speak of the devil, 12 minutes after I posted that article link from last month, that website updated the status of merging apple id's and it wasn't exactly positive, but I am still hoping: http://www.macrumors.com/2011/10/13/apple-not-offering-apple-id-merging/
