Network Issue

I've been ranting and scratching my head about my mac and finder/network issues. I'm still trying to resolve the problem of my mac not being able to automatically detect PC computers on my home network. At work the mac works great.

Well, two days ago I purchased VMWare Fusion 3, and let me tell you, it is awesome. Anyway, I created a virtual machine of Win XP. And this is the kicker of my post, at work my Mac and Fusion XP works like a charm but at home the Mac can't see the share from my onboard Fusion XP! Strange but I can use the go connect server option. I have no earthly idea why but at least I can omit the problem is caused by the Mac. At the moment I'm blaming the Linksys router. It has to be the router, or am I missing something? The router is setup normally and other PCs can detect each other. I'm at a lost to why the Mac can't even see the XP Fusion on my machine 🙂 Should I buy a Apple router? I'm at a lost and flustered. I have a WRT310N and maybe by chance I'm missing an important setting.(?) sigh Maybe I should just give the router away.

Macbook Pro (Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.2), 4GB Core2Duo 2.4

Thanks for your reply. This has nothing to do with network settings nor vmware on my Mac, as I've said, all works well under a different network. The vmware gives me a bit more insight on the problem but still inconclusive and mind boggling about why only certain conditions will allow a mac to work flawless in detecting PCs automatically. Evidently something is different on my home router than the one at work. What it is I don't know and I was hoping others here could shed some light or tell me to buy an Apple router.
