'Put Back' multiple items in Trash?

I accidentally moved about 700 files into the trash (mp3's from a search in spotlight). Is there an easy way to put them all back? The Put Back option is only available if I select one file at a time. That could take a while. 🙂

as I said, you need to make sure that all selected items can be "put back" individually. not every trashed item can be "put back" even if you select a single one. for example, if you trash something by dragging it from a stack in the dock there is no "put back" option when you select it in trash. also, some applications (like Aperture) let you trash items directly from the application without using Finder. then there is no "put back" option either.

that link confirms exactly what I was saying. if one of the selected items is not "put backable" then the whole selection will lack the option to put back. but the Op says that individual items in the selection all can be put back. this is a different issue. it certainly shouldn't happen. it doesn't happen here. i can "put back" multiple selected items without any trouble. i can't explain what's happening to the OP.

I assure you it's not rocket science what I did. 🙂

All I did was, in a finder window I typed mp3 into spotlight. Up pops a bunch of files. Thinking I was spotlighting only my USB memory stick, I Command-A and drag the files to the trash. Halfway through I looked at the finder window and said "oh, #$@#," it found all the mp3s on the entire computer, and not just the USB (forgot to click the volume name after it found everything instead of "This Mac"). So, I canceled the operation but it had already moved over 700ish files from my iTunes library.

Putting Back individual files works, but when I select a batch (even if those are individually put back-able) it doesn't.

Thus, we have a disconnect. V.K. and the linked article say if multiple put-awayable items are selected, they'll go back to their original places, whereas you're experience says otherwise. Some one smarter than I needs to figure this one out.

If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Apple Developer Connection ( ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.
